The next version of iOS, known as “iOS 5” is coming this fall. It brings many new features, such as Notification Center, which is integrated into the OS, which lets you see notifications from other apps, such as Mail for example all without leaving your current app. iPod Touch users now have a Messages app. You can send text messages from your iPod now. (Nice!) There’s also a Reminders app that… well, pretty much helps you stay organized. Twitter is now integrated into iOS 5 (Yuck!) Here is the part that fascinates me the most. You no longer need a PC to set up your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch. You can set it up via Wifi. Pretty interesting huh? Rumors were going around that iOS 5 would end support for the iPhone 3GS. But those rumors are wrong. iOS 5 is compatible with the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4, 3rd Generation iPod Touch and 4th Generation iPod Touch, and also the iPad and iPad 2. This is just a short summery. More features are listed at Apple’s website.
